BIOLOX® OPTION Head System
Features and Benefits
The BIOLOX OPTION head system consists of two components:
- Metal adapter sleeve Titanium alloy TiAl6V4 (ISO 5832-3), inner taper 12/14 or 8/10 that interlocks with the femoral stem.
- BIOLOX® delta Ceramic Head High-performance composite ceramic BIOLOX delta with a special inner taper.
Benefits of BIOLOX OPTION head system are:
- Enables the use of ceramic heads in hip revision surgery
- Additional neck length XL/+7mm for 28mm Head, taper 12/14
- Additional diameters providing more ROM and stability
- Improved mechanical properties due to new ceramic material and metal adapter
- Appropriate for patients who are sensitive to specific metal elements
- Possibility for low-wear bearing (ceramic-on-ceramic or ceramic-on-highly cross-linked PE) in revision cases
Surgical considerations
BIOLOX OPTION can be placed on
- A new taper (e.g. in primary THA)
- A used taper (after removal of the intact head)
- A slightly damaged taper (with scratches and warping of less than 0.25mm)
If the stem taper is severely damaged the exchange of the femoral stem is mandatory! May only be used with Zimmer stems, and in combination with highly cross-linked or conventional Zimmer polyethylene, or authorized Zimmer ceramics, where available.
