MIS® Anterior Supine Hip

A Muscle-Sparing Approach to THA
The Zimmer® Minimally Invasive Solutions™ (MIS™) Anterior Supine Hip Procedure, combined with many clinically proven Zimmer hip components, is designed with a focus on better outcomes and returning patients sooner to their desired quality of life.

Zimmer MIS solutions are at the forefront of minimally invasive THA instrument and procedure design.
The Zimmer MIS Anterior Supine Hip Procedure is designed to facilitate implantation through a smaller incision while sparing the muscles and tendons around the hip:

  • Without dividing the hip muscles
  • Without violating the posterior hip capsule
  • While enabling good acetabular and femoral visualization¹ in the supine position
  • While allowing direct leg-length assessment

Innovative instrumentation
The Zimmer MIS Anterior Supine Hip Procedure uses a small incision that courses between muscles. Zimmer has designed instrumentation to improve visualization and minimize soft-tissue trauma throughout the procedure in the following ways:

  • Backlit retractors improve visualization without encroaching upon the incision site
  • Low profile Osteotomy Guides reference visible anatomical landmarks within the small incision site
  • Double-offset rasp handles minimize soft-tissue abrasion and allow an atraumatic trajectory of the rasp during femoral preparation, even in larger patients
  • Optimized shapes and contours of the retractors help protect the skin edges and muscle fibers

Early clinical experience
An early report¹ on patients who have undergone the Zimmer MIS Anterior Supine Hip Procedure indicates that the small, single-incision intermuscular and internerval approach:

  • Helps provide excellent exposure with minimal muscle trauma
  • Facilitates rapid rehabilitation through this muscle-sparing technique
  • Preserves the posterior capsule to minimize the potential for posterior dislocation

Confidence is global collaboration and MIS leadership
Zimmer MIS procedures are revolutionizing orthopaedic medicine. And Zimmer was there from the start. Today, Zimmer continues to develop new joint replacement procedures in collaboration with leading surgeons from around the world. These procedures are designed to change the lives of today’s patients  patients who come from diverse cultures, enjoy active lifestyles and face physical, leisure and workplace demands.
